The short and medium-range en-route navigation technology has been designed to deliver improved navigation signal performance and reduced lifecycle costs.

“Thales is delighted to be working for Austro Control and is committed to providing cutting-edge systems that will help them provide effective service to their airspace users.”

Under the terms of the contract, Thales is required to deliver, install and provide training for up to eight new DVOR systems to Austro Control.

Thales air traffic management activities vice-president Jean-Marc Alias said: “Thales is delighted to be working for Austro Control and is committed to providing cutting-edge systems that will help them provide effective service to their airspace users.”

According to Thales, the ground-based DVOR 532 radio navigation system transmits an omnidirectional signal that assists an aircraft in finding its bearing relative to the location of the beacon.

The system provides a precise azimuth signal, making it suitable for difficult geographical conditions.

Once flight checks for the new systems are complete, Austro Control is expected to take control of the operation of the systems.

The first flight test of the system is scheduled to be carried out before the end of this year.
