Miami International Airport in Florida, US, is to test a $212m new baggage handling system, built by Siemens Mobility and Logistics.

The baggage handling system is part of the $3bn North Terminal project and will screen and deliver more than 6,000 bags an hour from the ticket counter to the boarding gates.

The new system will make the check-in process easier for travellers because they won’t have to wait for their bags to be weighed and tagged at the ticket counters.

The cost of the system has doubled to $212m since the airport ordered it a decade ago, according to Miami Herald.
