The Philippine Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has allocated PHP1bn ($23.34m) for the renovation of the unfinished portion of Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 3 following a legal dispute.

The DOTC will enter an agreement with Takenaka Corporation, the Japanese sub-contractor that built the terminal under a build-operate-transfer scheme, for repair works if the price is reasonable, said transportation and communications secretary Mar Roxas.

Takenaka previously filed a suit against the Philippine Government over the cancellation of its contract and the expropriation of the facility.

With the Pasay City Regional Trial Court’s approval, which had earlier ruled in favour of the government, thereby allowing it to take full control of the uncompleted NAIA 3 project, the government can now pursue talks with Takenaka for the completion of the terminal, according to Roxas.

Restoring the terminal’s interior will cost PHP450m and the exterior will cost PHP500m.
