A consortium led by US-based Carlyle Group is to bid for the acquisition of Edinburgh Airport in Scotland.

Carlyle will provide between £100m to £200m of the purchase price.

According to reports, Edinburgh Airport is worth €524m, and the value is likely to rise after the sale prospectus clears how much potential development land will be included in the sale, according to ft.com.

Edinburgh handled 7.3m passengers in the first nine months of 2011 and serves more than 120 destinations.

The sale is expected to attract other European airport operators and infrastructure funds including Fraport, operator of Frankfurt airport, and Aeroports de Paris, operator of Charles de Gaulle airport.
