The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has revealed a plan to install millimetre wave advanced imaging technology (AIT) units at eight airports.

The airports are John Wayne Airport, Sacramento International Airport, Myrtle Beach International Airport, Portland International Airport, Fairbanks International Airport, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, AB Won Pat International Airport and Burbank Bob Hope Airport.

AIT is designed to enhance security by safely screening passengers for metallic and non-metallic threats such as weapons, explosives and objects that can be concealed under layers of clothing.

The machines will be deployed with new automated target recognition software, which will ensure passenger privacy by eliminating passenger-specific images.
