Space Systems / Loral (SSL) has been selected by Space-Communication (Spacecom) to build the AMOS-8 communications satellite with advanced capabilities.

AMOS-8 will be designed to provide broadcast, broadband and data services from Spacecom’s 4°W ‘hot-spot’ to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The satellite will be equipped with flexible high-power Ku-band and Ka-band payloads with steerable antennas to allow customers to provide various additional value services.

To be built on the SSL 1300 platform, the AMOS-8 will be able to provide services for a minimum of 15 years.

The company currently operates the AMOS-3 and AMOS-7 satellites, which are both located at 4°W orbital position, and the AMOS-4 satellite placed at a 65°E altitude.

The satellites provide high-quality broadcast and communication services to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia via direct-to-home (DTH) and direct broadcast satellite (DBS) operators, as well as government and other agencies.

Spacecom plans to add AMOS-17 satellite tat 17°E next year, with an aim to further expand its reach.
