The sensors in the suite can be used to transfer data to a Remote Tower Centre (RTC) that can make controllers operate an airport in a way similar to a traditional ATC tower.

Operated from Dublin Remote Tower Centre, the Remote Tower installation at Cork and Shannon airports form part of the large scale evaluation carried out by the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR).

IAA operations director and ATM strategy Peter Kearney said: "Remote Tower and EFS are cutting edge innovations which fit well with our company philosophy and will further increase the efficiency and safety of our Tower operations."

Saab has been actively working with ATC and air navigation service providers for developing remote tower systems and technologies.
