Swedish defence and security company Saab has received a contract from the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) for the delivery of a remote tower centre to the Dublin Airport.
The contract would also include the installation of a corresponding remote tower at Cork and Shannon Airports and electronic flight strips (EFS) at all the three airports.

Designed to replace the legacy system with paper strips in air traffic control (ATC) towers, EFS can be used by airports for projecting onscreen information of the planned air traffic.
The remote tower product suite consists of high definition cameras and pan-tilt-zoom cameras, surveillance and meteorological sensors, microphones, signal light guns and other devices.
Saab traffic management business unit head Anders Carp said: "Implementing Saab’s Remote Tower and Electronic Flight Strips, Irish Aviation Authority takes air traffic control to a new level.

By GlobalDataThe sensors in the suite can be used to transfer data to a Remote Tower Centre (RTC) that can make controllers operate an airport in a way similar to a traditional ATC tower.
Operated from Dublin Remote Tower Centre, the Remote Tower installation at Cork and Shannon airports form part of the large scale evaluation carried out by the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR).
IAA operations director and ATM strategy Peter Kearney said: "Remote Tower and EFS are cutting edge innovations which fit well with our company philosophy and will further increase the efficiency and safety of our Tower operations."
Saab has been actively working with ATC and air navigation service providers for developing remote tower systems and technologies.
