US-based defense contractor L-3 Communications has developed a high-throughput explosives detection system (EDS), ClearScan for enhancing screening procedures at airports.
According to the company, the EDS has been developed keeping in mind the transformation in airport regulatory and operational requirements.

With a capacity of scanning more than 500 bags an hour and a false alarm rate that helps in bringing down the need for elaborate bag searches, the technology is expected to improve airport checkpoint throughput and increase efficiency.
ClearScan, which makes use of computed tomography (CT) and advanced explosives detection algorithms, also takes into account the demands of passengers for a smoother screening experience and allows them to leave liquids and electronics in their bags during security checks.
Along with ClearScan, the company is also launching a checkpoint operations software IntelliCore that can facilitate risk-based security operations along with strengthening checkpoint security capabilities.
The technology will help airports transform checkpoint screening into a highly flexible operation to improve passenger satisfaction.
