Expected to be completed in three years, the project includes addition of steel, fabric and glass canopies at the fronts of the north and south terminal entrances to shield passengers from extreme weathers, reported the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

While the 20 vestibule entrances located at the north and south terminals will be given sloped skylights, the security screen checkpoints will see the addition of undulating metal ceilings.

Passenger queuing area will also be extended with the demolition of shops located between the main security checkpoint and restrooms.

The airport will modify its atrium to make it a showcase for smart and sustainable energy by introducing plants and greenery.

Out of the $430m, $390m will be paid through commercial financing. The remaining amount will be covered through the passenger facility charge.

The proposal for commercial financing will be soon sent to the Atlanta City Council for approval.

The airport also plans to use around $62m from the commercial financing to replace its old jet bridges.
