Virgin Australia has unveiled its new T1 domestic terminal at Perth Airport, which is set to commence service from 22 November.

The $200m terminal is part of the $1bn redevelopment project of the airport built exclusively for the operations of Virgin Australia.

It was designed by an Australia-based international architectural firm, Woods Bagot.

Virgin Australia chief executive officer John Borghetti said: "The new Virgin Australia T1 Domestic Terminal will see regional, domestic and international flights located together in one precinct, enabling us to offer customers one of the fastest connection times in Australia."

The new domestic terminal will have 28 check-in kiosks and bag-drop technology; 12 departure gates including three A330 capable aircraft gates, a central retail and dining area and a Virgin Australia lounge featuring the airline’s signature Espresso and Wine Bar.

"We are very pleased with the quality of the new T1 Domestic Terminal."

The terminal will also have a service desk to assist with check-in and seven service pods for Virgin Australia ground crew member to support customers.

Perth Airport chief executive officer Brad Geatches said: "We are very pleased with the quality of the new T1 Domestic Terminal. It was the most complex component of our redevelopment programme, and we are delighted to welcome Virgin Australia to their new home.

"The new terminal is a world-class facility, offering customers a high level of service including a range of quality food, beverage and retail outlets, and a premium lounge for Virgin Australia guests."

The new domestic terminal will have innovative features to reduce energy consumption, particularly the use of natural light and a façade providing shade during summers.
