An American airport equipment supplier, JBT AeroTech has been awarded an over $20m contract by Nashville International Airport to supply it with 36 new Jetway passenger boarding bridges.

As per the terms of the contract, which was given to JBT AeroTech after a competitive bid selection process, the company will supply gate equipment and additional equipment such as JetAire preconditioned air units, reported Airport-world.com.

Nashville International Airport requires the new jetbridges as JetBlue will resume its service at the airport in the spring with the launch of non-stop daily services to Boston and Fort Laurderdale.

"It’s been an extraordinary year for Nashville International Airport on so many different levels."

The airport will also see the launch of new services to Dallas Love Field, Seattle-Tacoma, Atlantic City, Oakland, and Miami, and Cuba.

JBT AeroTech president Dave Burdakin was quoted by Airportimprovement.com as saying: "JBT is proud to be selected by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority as a key partner in this transformational project."

The installation of the equipment will continue for approximately 18 months and is expected to begin in May 2016.

JBT will also offer power upgrades, cable management systems, 28.5VDC systems, gate-box step down transformers, among other equipment.

A record of 11,673,633 passengers travelled to and from the Nashville Airport in 2015, marking a rise of 5.7% from the previous year.

Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) president and CEO Rob Wigington was quoted by Airport-world.com as saying: "It’s been an extraordinary year for Nashville International Airport on so many different levels.

"Our passenger traffic continues its record-setting growth, adding to the vitality of this region and showcasing the role the airport serves as a major driver of economic development for our community."
