The Netherlands-based material handling company Vanderdale has been awarded the contract to supply modern baggage handling system (BHS) at the Bahrain International Airport (BIA).

The scope of the assignment includes the designing, manufacturing and installation of a baggage handling system that will be able to process 4,700 bags every hour.

The BHS is expected to include an early bag store with the capacity of 600 items of luggage and eight reclaim belts.

The new BHS will help improve infrastructure of the airport to cater to the passenger capacity of 14 million passengers every year.

The project has been commissioned to Vanderdale by the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) and the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC).

The contract was signed at the Bahrain International Airshow 2016 held at Sakhir Air Base.
