London Heathrow Airport has entered a partnership with Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to share skills, efficiency and experience in a bid to improve the airports’ services, innovation and sustainability.

The partnership, signed by Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Fred Lam and Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye, is the first of its kind for Heathrow Airport.

Under the terms of the deal, the airports will work together to encourage innovation, as well as improve airport operations, passenger service, and environmental performance.

Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said: "This relationship will see two of the world’s most successful hub airports working together to make our operations and service to passengers industry leading in every aspect.

"Heathrow has similar challenges and different skills to Hong Kong – this will be a great opportunity to draw the best out of each other to the benefit of our passengers, our communities and the environment."

Both airports boast a global airline network that includes home-based carriers, along with significant cargo and retail markets.

The airports plan to collaborate on future projects and expand their infrastructure.

Airport Authority Hong Kong CEO Fred Lam said: "We are delighted to sign this agreement which will enable our two airports to work closer together in the future.

The first phase of the collaboration includes the central management of airport operations, passenger service, future terminal design, and crisis planning.
