Syphax Airlines chairman and director general Mohamed Frikha said that the carrier was focused on growing its Tunisian, North Africa and Europe routes, and expanding its network to Asia and North America, through its hubs in Tunis and Sfax.

"Adding the A320neo to our fleet means we can achieve all of these goals while benefitting from a 15% fuel saving and cost effectiveness," Frikha said.

Airbus COO Customers John Leahy added: "We’re looking forward to seeing Syphax’s A320neo aircraft operating seamlessly alongside their current A320 fleet, delivering to them savings through reduced maintenance and pilot training costs as a result of the high degree of commonality between the aircraft models."

According to Airbus, the A320neo is offered as an option for the A320 family aircraft and features new efficient engines and large Sharklet wing tip devices, which together will offer up to 15% in fuel savings.

At the end of June 2013, the firm orders for neo were 2,245 from 40 customers, making it the fastest selling commercial airliner with approximately 60% market share.

Syphax Airlines, founded in 2011, operates two main hubs, Sfax-Thyna Airport and Tunis-Carthage, and it serves destinations in the Mediterranean region such as France, Germany, Libya, and Turkey, as well as domestic routes.
