Italian airline Alitalia will potentially acquire a 49% stake in Air Malta after a proposed deal has been examined.
The acquisition is part of Alitalia’s plan to become a profitable company by 2017.

In a separate deal, Alitalia has expanded its code-share agreement with US-based Delta Air Lines.
The agreement, which is effective from 1 June 2016, will allow Alitalia to place its AZ code on Delta’s flights from Minneapolis / St. Paul Airport.

By GlobalDataEffective from 27 April 2016, Air Serbia included its code on Alitalia’s flights from Belgrade to Ohrid, Pula and Varna.
From 5 April, Alitalia has placed its code on Air Serbia-operated flights from Rome to Amman.
Saudi Arabian Airlines has announced an initial public offering (IPO) worth SAR5bn ($1.33bn) to be completed by mid-2016, with HSBC Holdings as the lead arranger.
The proceeds will be used to fund the airline’s fleet expansion.
