Turkey-based Polimeks Construction has contracted Smiths Detection to supply screening equipment for the new Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan.
Under the terms of the deal, Smiths Detection will install X-ray systems for hand luggage screening at security checkpoints.

The company will also deliver millimetre-wave scanners for screening passengers and trace detection systems for explosives.
The deal also coves out-of-gauge baggage systems, which will screen on-board catering for passengers and air cargo consignments.
Hold baggage at the airport will be scanned by European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) approved systems for detecting automatic explosives.
The upgraded screening systems will help detect explosives, weapons, narcotics and contraband.

Smiths Detection will deliver its screening solutions at Ashgabat International Airport by June.
The company also won a $6.5m contract to provide HI-SCAN 6040 automatic threat identification X-ray (aTiX) scanners for baggage screening at airport checkpoints.
The order was received under the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Advanced Technology 2 (AT-2) contract.
