Rolls-Royce has expanded its Jet Engine Testing Facility at Nasa’s John C Stennis Space Center in Hancock County, Mississippi, with the opening of a second $50m outdoor jet engine test stand.

The new jet engine test stand, which will play a vital role in the development of next-generation technology which will help reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

The site conducts several jet engine tests such as noise, crosswind and endurance, among others.

The tests are conducted on the latest, advanced Rolls-Royce civil aircraft engines, including the Trent 1000 that powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Trent XWB that is deployed in Airbus’s new A350 XWB aircraft.

Rolls-Royce North America president and CEO James Guyette said that the company’s partnership with the state of Mississippi continues to grow.

Once fully operational, the latest expansion will generate 35 new jobs in Mississippi.

Rolls-Royce North America opened its first Outdoor Jet Engine Testing Facility at Stennis Space Center in 2007.

The company currently employs more than 150 people in the state at this facility and Rolls-Royce Marine Propeller and Waterjet Foundry in Pascagoula.

Rolls-Royce, a provider of power systems and services, has a broad customer base, including 300 airlines and corporate and utility aircraft and helicopter operators.
