Vietnam’s private airline VietJetAir is reportedly planning to finalise an order for 62 Airbus jets, worth $6.1bn.

VietJetAir managing director Luu Duc Khanh told AFP that the agreement is expected to be signed at the Singapore Airshow in February this year.

In September last year, VietJetAir signed an agreement with Airbus to purchase 620 A320 model aircraft, with options for additional 30 jets.

The deal included 42 new A320neo, 14 single-aisle A320 model aircraft, and six A321ceo aircraft that can accommodate nearly 220 passengers.

At the time of signing the deal, VietJetAir managing director Luu Duc Khanh said: "Based on this experience, we look forward to developing our business with the most economic and comfortable aircraft available today."

Airbus’s A320 Family received more than 9,800 orders and made over 5,700 deliveries to 385 customers and operators across the world.

VietJetAir commenced operations in late 2011 as the first private carrier in the country to offer both domestic and international services.

Currently, the airline’s network covers 11 cities within Vietnam, plus international services to Bangkok.
