Space Systems Loral (SSL) has delivered the JCSAT-14 telecommunication satellite to the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, US.

Designed and built for Japan-based satellite operator SKY Perfect JSAT, the satellite is expected to launch from the launch pad of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station aboard a SpaceX-built Falcon 9 rocket next month.

Once launched, the JCSAT-14 will be used for broadcast, data networks, mobility services and internet connectivity for maritime and aviation industries in Asia, Russia, Oceania, and the Pacific Islands.

The satellite will replace and expand on the capacity of JCSAT-2A at the 154° East longitude orbital position for a period of 15 years or more.

Equipped with 26 C-band transponders and 18-Ku-band transponders, the JCSAT-14 is the 102nd satellite built on SSL 1300 platform.

SSL is currently building JCSAT-15 and JCSAT-16, both of which are scheduled to launch this year.

The company received the contract to build the JCSAT-14 satellite in 2013 from SKY Perfect JSAT, which operates a fleet of 16 satellites.
