Rolls-Royce has won a $300m deal from Indonesia’s Lion Air Group to supply its Trent 700 engines that will power three new Airbus A330 aircraft.

The deal also includes Rolls-Royce’s TotalCare engine service, which enables the aircraft owner and the engine maker to improve engine reliability and improve engine’s time on aircraft wing.

Rolls-Royce civil aerospace customers senior vice-president Ewen McDonald said: “Lion Group is a valued customer and we are delighted to support its growth plans for the future."

Over the last four years, the Trent 700 engine was selected for more than 70% of new aircraft orders.

More than 1,600 Trent 700 engines are now either in service or on firm order.

"We are very pleased to continue with this combination for our new aircraft.”

With a mixed fleet of 284 aircraft, the airline currently operates under various brand names such as Lion Air, Wings, Batik Air, Malindo Air, Thai Lion Air and Lion Bizjet.

The carrier will be the first to fly Boeing’s new 737 MAX 8 aircraft and is the launch customer of Boeing 737 MAX 9 jet.
