The system has been launched this month when a flight carrying 50 passengers departed for a 23-day trip across Eurasia.

The system enabled passengers to use an aircraft-provided iPad or their own devices to check email or browse the internet during their flight. They can also have access to news, sports, weather information and various other online content.

“Rockwell Collins was able to customise the system to interface with our onboard lecture system."

TCS World Travel president Shelley Cline said: “Rockwell Collins was able to customise the system to interface with our onboard lecture system.

“This allows our guests to receive a live presentation from a travel expert about an upcoming destination that is broadcast to interested guests via the provided onboard iPads.”

In June, Rockwell Collins secured a deal to provide its solutions for Airbus’ flight operations and maintenance exchanger (FOMAX) programme, designed for the Airbus A320 aircraft.

As part of the arrangement, Rockwell Collins will provide a compact connectivity unit to collect aircraft maintenance and performance data, as well as automatically send it to ground-based operations.

The solution is capable of keeping operators connected to their aircraft by using the infrastructure for secure wireless connectivity.
