Safran’s US subsidiary is set to open a new facility in Mobile, Alabama, to produce aircraft engine nacelles.

The Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) is expanding one of the existing bays by adding 24,500ft² of space at the Brookley-based Mobile Aeroplex.

Safran USA will also make a $1m investment to purchase new equipment for the facility, which is scheduled to open by November and expected to add 20 employees over the next three years.

The facility location was finalised after discussions between Safran USA representatives, Mobile mayor Sandy Stimpson, county commissioner Connie Hudson and MAA’s Mark McVay.

A provider of aircraft components for Airbus and other plane makers, Safran USA currently employs 7,000 people in 58 locations across 22 states.

Earlier this month, the company announced that US Congressman David Joyce made a visit to the Safran Electrical & Power facility in Twinsburg, Ohio.

The visit is set to help Safran USA in expanding its presence, as well as support job creation and economic growth across the country.

With more than 130 employees, Safran USA’s Ohio facility is engaged in the development and maintenance of electrical power generation and management systems for both commercial and military aircraft.
