The Frequentis Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) partners consortium is to participate in the industrial research, validation and demonstration activities of SESAR 2020.

The consortium comprising Austria-based Frequentis, European IT company Atos, and air navigation services provider HungaroControl will help increase cross-industry improvements by integrating different stakeholders in the air traffic management (ATM) value chain.

Major topics to be addressed in SESAR 2020 include remote towers, virtualised centres and information management.

The new European ATM research and modernisation project will help add more SESAR members and bring together several organisations worldwide.

Frequentis ATM Civil vice-president Hannu Juurakko said: “With the full strength of this consortium, we are in a position to support SESAR 2020 activities with innovative technology, seamless integration standards and cross-industry developments.”

The SESAR 2020 programme will focus on several areas in the ATM value chain in a bid to improve air traffic and network services, and facilitate necessary infrastructure.

These areas will include remote towers, automation, information management, and big data analysis to enhance performance measurement and optimisation, as well as voice and data communication solutions such as system-wide information management (SWIM).

It will also cover networks, surveillance, and interoperable and open standards for controller working positions.
