The US state of Pennsylvania has provided a total of $8.8m to 23 airports in order to fund safety upgrades and expand their operations.
The airports that have received the funding include Doylestown Airport, Pennridge Airport, Quakertown Airport, John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport, Wilkes-Barre / Scranton International Airport, York Airport and Skyhaven Airport.

Doylestown Airport has secured the highest grant of $2.3m, which will be used to acquire property for a new terminal building and the northwest T-hangar complex.
"Hundreds of thousands of jobs are supported by aviation in Pennsylvania, and these investments will help them operate safely, expand to meet demands, or attract more growth."
The grant contains $5.4m from the Aviation Transportation Assistance Program, a capital budget grant programme funded with bonds.
The funding has been administered by PennDOT's Bureau of Aviation and authorised by the General Assembly.

By GlobalDataInvestment also comprises $3.4m in state funding from PennDOT's Aviation Development Program, which derives from the state's jet fuel tax and leverages $1.1m in local matching funds.
The Aviation Development Program is eligible only for the state's public-use airports.
This programme complements the state's Multimodal Fund, which will dedicate $6m to the aviation sector in this fiscal year.
