The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (Catsa) is testing a new pre-board screening line at Montréal-Trudeau’s screening checkpoint 'A' to transform the passenger experience at airport security.
The new line is part of a Catsa Plus concept that involves combining several equipment and process innovations, which have been trialled by the authority over the past few years, to improve effectiveness of its screening operations.

Canadian Transport Minister Marc Garneau said: “I fully support the Catsa Plus programme as it provides Canadians with improved screening services and a better travelling experience.”
The screening line includes features such as motorised rollers, a remote X-ray viewing room, an automatic bin return system, and improved divest and repack stations for passengers.
Catsa president and CEO Angus Watt said: “Catsa is always looking at innovative concepts that can contribute to a better screening experience while ensuring the highest level of security.

By GlobalDataCatsa Plus is adaptable to different airport environments and depending on checkpoint size, space and passenger volumes, elements can be added or removed.
By determining the impact on screening line performance, the trial will evaluate the passenger experience.
Based on the results, Catsa will be able to make any necessary refinements prior to the first full deployment in Canada.
The complete Catsa Plus checkpoint will be deployed in the new international terminal at Calgary International Airport at the end of October.
