The Port of Seattle in the US has unveiled the first videos and the final design images for the modernisation of the North Satellite terminal at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
As part of the $636m North Sea-Tac Airport Renovation (NorthSTAR) project, the 40-year-old facility will be expanded with eight new gates and a 240ft extension.

Renovations will also include the addition of an upper level mezzanine, doubling the existing dining and retail capacity, and a rooftop Alaska Airlines lounge.
The project is set to start in early 2017, with Phase I expected to conclude in 2019 and the full facility upgrade opening in 2021.
Port of Seattle commission president John Creighton said: “This project, which will include new gates, increased dining and retail options, and more robust Wi-Fi and connectivity, is critical for meeting the region’s needs at Sea-Tac Airport for the next 25 years.
“Renovations will open up the building with natural light, bring the feeling of movement and travel inside and express the culture of the Pacific Northwest with cost efficient, environmentally friendly functions and materials including a living wall and collecting rainwater to supply flushing water to the restrooms throughout most of the year.”

By GlobalDataNorthSTAR is the result of an arrangement between the Port and Sea-Tac’s Alaska Airlines and the sole tenant of the North Satellite.
Alaska Airlines executive vice-president and chief commercial officer Andrew Harrison said: “With upgraded facilities and additional gates, the improvements to the North Satellite will enhance the travel experience for our customers and employees and accommodate the continued growth of the airline.
“Through the partnership with the Port of Seattle on the North Satellite Expansion Project, we will be able to deliver a signature Alaska experience for fliers in a space that epitomises our energetic brand.”
The NorthSTAR will include an articulated roof form and the interior will feature concourses constructed of materials, colours and finishes inspired by the Pacific North West environment.
Phase I, which will build out the extension to the west of the existing building, is set to complete in 2019, while Phase II will see the renovation and upgrade of the eastern portion of the building.
