The two-storey terminal is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018 and will have a total floor area of 9,500m², 500m² of which will be used to serve business passengers.

Situated at the eastern side of the airport, the terminal is designed to handle nearly 700,000 passengers annually and will be larger than the existing facility at Seletar.

Once completed, the new terminal will allow scheduled turboprop flights to be moved to Seletar from Singapore’s Changi Airport.

Seletar Airport general manager See Seng Wan said: “We have made good progress with the redevelopment of Seletar Airport in recent years.

“Today’s groundbreaking for the new terminal is another milestone in our plans for the airport.

“We look forward to providing passengers with a new level of experience, in terms of comfort and convenience, when the terminal opens.”

The new terminal will handle passenger operations on its ground floor, which will offer four check-in counters, four immigration counters, two security screening stations, and a gate hold-room for around 200 passengers.

The departures area will also feature a café and three aircraft parking stands.

So far, the airport has been upgraded with an expanded runway, additional taxiways and aircraft parking aprons.

A new control tower and fire station have also been constructed.
