India’s Akasa Air has announced a further expansion of its fleet with an order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft signed during the WINGS India civil aviation conference.
The order marks a significant investment for the airline, which currently has a fleet of only 22 aircraft, and will include both MAX 10 and MAX 8-200 aircraft delivered steadily through to 2032.

While it only launched in August 2022, Akasa Air has been seeking to make a big impact on the Indian aviation sector as part of its desire to be a top 30 leading global airline by 2030, carrying 6.8 million passengers since its launch.
Including its recent purchase, Akasa now has a backlog of 204 aircraft on order following its initial agreement with Boeing to buy 72 aircraft in 2021, and an additional 4 aircraft order at the Paris Air Show in June 2023.

By GlobalDataThe airline is currently set to fly an exclusively 737 MAX fleet, with its other orders including 23 737-8s and another 53 737-8-200s.
Akasa says that the order also aligns with its “commitment to sustainability” thanks to the 737 MAX family’s greater fuel efficiency, 20% carbon emissions reduction and 50% lower noise footprint than previous generation planes.
The strong order will be welcome news for Boeing and the 737 MAX family, which is currently facing a high level of scrutiny after an Alaska Airlines MAX 9 suffered a door plug blowout mid-flight, leading the US FAA to ground 171 of the aircraft and increase oversight of the aircraft manufacturer’s production.
