Aircraft manufacturer Embraer has unveiled the first look at a converted E190 jet which has been transformed from an all-passenger to an all-freighter plane.

The Brazilian company released a video showcasing the work behind converting the plane, the first to undergo the process, at its São José dos Campos facility.

In the video, the company said the new aircraft would “accelerate business opportunity” for customers, it said: “A new E Jet to meet the growing demand for e-commerce, to get goods to secondary markets faster, more economically, more efficiently.”

As part of the conversion, the E190 received a reinforced floor, a 9G rigid cargo barrier, a cargo loading system, and a new door for the loading of cargo into the body of the plane.

The company has described the jet as filling a gap in the market between turboprops and larger narrowbodys, saying it will be well placed to take over the operations of larger aircraft that are not being fully utilised.

According to preliminary details, the E190F shown in the video will have a volume of 3,632 cubic feet, while the larger E195F will have a 4,171 cubic feet interior.

While this is the first E190 to undergo conversion for freight operations, the jet has already achieved success in the passenger aviation industry, with companies such as Singapore’s Scoot and Jordan’s Royal Jordanian Airlines utilising the jet.

The model also formed part of Embraer’s successful earnings through 2023, with a 27% year on year increase in revenue during Q2 recording a total of $1.29bn.
