US-based communication solutions provider Motorola Solutions has provided its Wave push-to-talk (PTT) platform at Stuttgart Airport in Southern Germany.

Designed to connect TETRA radio with different networks such as Wi-Fi, cellular and telephone landlines, the Wave platform offers better workforce connectivity, interoperability and collaboration.

The PTT platform enhances connectivity between airport public safety personnel, workers and supporting organisations through various broadband platforms, such as smartphones, computers, radios and telephones from any location.

Flughafen Stuttgart information and communication services Matthias Kolb said: “We have been relying on Motorola Solutions’ TETRA digital radio solutions since 2009 and successfully expanded our Dimetra IP Compact system to Baden-Airpark in 2013.

"Extending our TETRA network to other user groups at the airport was a logical step for us to increase efficiencies and to help us provide the best possible service to our passengers."

With the newly installed Wave solution, airport officials will be able to quickly communicate with individual responders or groups in the TETRA network.

Airport employees can also set up a connection with a public provider network to enhance communication.

Motorola said that the airport authorities have entered a comprehensive agreement featuring software, hardware and implementation as well as maintenance and repair services, in order to ensure the longevity of the communications system.
