Civil and military aviation parts and small planes provider Textron Aviation has opened a new facility in Wichita, Kansas, to improve its global supply chain.

The new “Global Parts Distribution facility” is located at Textron’s headquarters, but has extended the warehouse floor space by 180,000 square feet (16,700 square metres).

The increased space for parts storage will lead to faster shipping to global customers, according to the firm. It will be a key support and maintenance location for Beechcraft, Cessna and Hawker clients, Textron explained.

The facility’s larger footprint will allow for increased inventory investment, meaning parts availability for both new and existing models will increase. The expansion also aims to improve the overall customer experience with a new, dedicated lane for customers to conveniently drop off or pick up parts in person, according to Brad White, senior vice president of global parts and distribution.

“Adding 180,000 square feet to our headquarter facility provides expedited support to our customers around the globe and continues our investment in parts inventory. The expansion of our parts distribution operations is a testament to Textron Aviation’s commitment to designing and delivering the best aviation experience for customers,” he said.

Textron said the new facility was built in line with its environmental commitments, with energy-saving LED lights and “high-efficiency systems and process improvements” to reduce vehicle delivery kilometres.
