Lithuanian Airports has awarded a contract to Dutch engineering firm Royal HaskoningDHV to create master plans and feasibility studies for developing three airports in Lithuania.

This will outline development options for the coming decades for Vilnius Airport (VNO), Kaunas Airport (KUN) and Palanga Airport (PLQ).

Royal HaskoningDHV will focus on the specific strengths of each airport, as well as flight expansion and growing the capacity of passenger and cargo terminals.

The long-term network development study under the €‎824,000 contract is expected to be prepared by the end of next year.

The contract also includes an evaluation of accessibility, infrastructure, and the environmental situation.

Once completed, the study will provide a financial estimate for the long-term development period and an overview of the airports’ impact on the national economy and the usage of the land plots owned by Lithuanian Airports.

Lithuanian Airports Operations and Infrastructure Department head Arnas Dūmanas said: “Among many other important insights for our entire airport network, the expert study will analyse development and modernisation alternatives for today’s Vilnius Airport arrivals terminal.

“The recommendations made by the consultants will help to decide on future actions related to the heritage sites.

“Long-term development is our strategic goal, and we have consistently pursued it, even during the pandemic. Now we have a lot of work ahead of us to work with consultants to find the optimal long-term development solutions, helping experts to understand our specificities, which are present in every airport.”
