Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has secured a new ground handling contract at John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, US, from Qatar Airways Cargo, the freight division of Qatar Airways.

From JFK, Qatar Airways serves various destinations including Doha, Mexico City, and Liege in Belgium.

The three-year contract for cargo and freighter ramp handling at JFK extends WFS’ global alliance with Qatar Airways Cargo. Initially, WFS will offer its cargo services to 11 Qatar Airways’ Boeing 777 passenger services per week and three B777 freighter flights, which is equivalent to handling approximately 45 million kilograms annually.

Under the latest contract, WFS has been tasked with performing all cargo handling processes such as cargo acceptance, screening, build-up, and breakdown of pallets and containers, at its dedicated Building 75 facility at the airport. Additionally, WFS will offer complete freighter handling and ramp parking services to Qatar’s B777F at its Building 76 operation at JFK.

WFS Americas executive vice-president Mike Simpson said: “This is a very significant new contract for WFS with one of our leading global clients. In North America alone, Qatar Airways Cargo is now partnering with WFS in Boston, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Seattle, as well as in New York.

“As the largest cargo handler at JFK, the company recognises the value we will bring to their operational efficiency and customer experience through the significant expertise and resources we can leverage.

“Qatar Airways’ customers will enjoy a priority service through the dedicated WFS warehouse facility we are providing for the airline.”

In February this year, Qatar Airways Cargo partnered with South Korean air cargo platform iNOMAD to boost the visibility of rates and capacity for its clients while booking shipments.
