Two flight-scheduled Ryanair aircraft have clipped each other while taxiing to the runway at Dublin Airport.

The winglet of one aircraft clipped the tail fin of the other during taxiing to the runway yesterday morning. However, no passengers were injured during the incident.

The Independent quoted the Irish Aviation Authority as saying: "The Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) of the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport has been notified and will conduct a further investigation. It would be inappropriate to provide any further comment at this time."

"Both aircraft were under the instruction of Dublin Airport Air Traffic Control at the time. Customers were bussed and boarded two replacement aircraft, which departed to Edinburgh and Zadar."

The Ryanair said in a statement: "Two of our aircraft were taxiing slowly to the runway at Dublin Airport this morning. The winglet of one aircraft appears to have scraped the tail fin of the other.

"Both aircraft were under the instruction of Dublin Airport Air Traffic Control at the time. Customers were bussed and boarded two replacement aircraft, which departed to Edinburgh and Zadar.

"Ryanair apologised sincerely to customers for any inconvenience caused."

While no flights were cancelled as a result of the accident, there was a possibility of certain flights getting delayed.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, an Aer Lingus flight bound to Vienna had to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport due to a technical issue. As per standard safety procedure, the flight was met with emergency services at the runway. The airline later said that the plane would be sent for inspection and passengers would be accommodated on an alternative flight.
