Work is currently underway on the $41.9m expansion and modernisation project at the Tri-Cities Airport in the US.

Port of Pasco commissioner Jim Klindworth was quoted by Tri-City Herald as saying: "This will be a large economic development for the Tri-Cities.

"We had very good leadership and planning on this project and we hope this project will take us into the next 20 years."

The construction and expansion work will take place in three phases and the improvements consist of new departure and arrival wings, the extension of baggage claim and screening areas and a remodelled ticketing area.

The project is being funded by airport user fees and federal grants and the renovations are scheduled to be completed by December 2016.
