The Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) has awarded global restaurateur HMSHost and its partners AJA & Associates and Ellis Infinity a $258m contract to operate nine new dining options in the North Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) in the US.

WCAA, which operates the DTW, said that the contract will be valid for a period of ten years.

The contractors will operate a combination of locally-based businesses, chains and concept restaurants.

HMSHost’s partners AJA & Associates and Ellis Infinity are part of the Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) programme.

Under the contract, the partners will open a number of food and dining outlets which include Pei Wei Asian Diner, Chick-fil-A, Outback Steakhouse, Cantoro Italian Market Trattoria, Anita’s Kitchen Lebanese Café and Brioche Doree bakery.

Wayne County Airport Authority interim CEO Chad Newton said: “With award-winning restaurants in baggage claim and in the gate area, whether travelling, picking up or dropping off a loved one, every DTW visitor will have the opportunity to enjoy our new food and beverage programme.”

At present, HMSHost operates four Starbucks stores at the airport.
