In 2008, Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), Canada completed an eight-year Airport Development Programme (ADP)
ATEÏS designs, develops and manufactures public address (PA) and voice alarm (VA) technology and equipment. With headquarters in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and offices across Europe, the US, the Middle East, Far East and Singapore, it is able to keep people informed and safe throughout the world.
A wide range of buildings around the world use ATEÏS’ PA / VA processors and controllers, commercial audio products, intelligent acoustics systems, loudspeakers, amplifiers and intercoms. From airports, railway and subway stations to internationally recognised concert halls, like Paris’ Opéra Bastille and the Harpa in Iceland, to world heritage sites, such as the Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona, ATEÏS systems have the intelligibility, flexibility, scalability and reliability to do the job all day, every day.
Airport public address and voice alarm installations
ATEÏS is proud to provide models and technologies that will fit specific needs and requirements.
The IDA8 PA / VA system is the third generation of ATEÏS’ controller and network technology and is based on either internet protocol (IP) and/or fibre-optic connections to provide maximum reach and coverage over any distance in all kinds of venue.
It conforms to the main standards for PA / VA systems: EN54-16, ISO 7240-16 and BS5839/8. It comprises a controller unit containing audio digital signal processing (DSP), matrix control functions and a digital message player that can store up to four hours of digital audio.
If you would like to extend the IDA8S system you can add slave units to it. The controller is programmed and set up through a PC but this can be disconnected after configuration to allow it to run as a standalone unit. Up to 256 priority messages or functions can be set for a maximum of 256 zones on a local network.
High-quality digital sound for message paging and audio routing
The UAPG2 is an expandable DSP processor that delivers high-quality digital sound for message paging and more general audio routing with multiple zones. With processing based on advanced 24-bit analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue converters, the UAPG2 has excellent audio performance coupled with the lowest possible delay times.
The unit combines a number of audio tools that are necessary for a comprehensive, good sounding system. These include a pre-amplifier, compressor-limiter and equaliser, as well as the matrix for routing and directing signals. UAPG2’s features include:
- Automatic gain control
- Feedback killers
- Automatic microphone mixers and crossovers
- Automatic noise sensing
It can be controlled over an IP network or from a PC by connecting through its Ethernet port.
At the other end of the chain, the MCS range of column loudspeakers deliver good intelligibility in a discreet package. Each MCS enclosure is a miniature line-array, a high-tech form of loudspeaker that contains many components coupled together to produce a long-throw of sound with a wide dispersion and a smooth response, without the need for DSP control. The MCS has also been designed to blend in with the aesthetic lines of a building, so it is not visually obtrusive.
Intelligence in speaker design provides a clear and comfortable speech level. MESSENGER has been designed to meet the industry standard for voice alarm, commercial audio and pro-sound. It has steerable line-arrays, based on DSP technology and a patent algorithm. The MESSENGERG2 range is completely software controlled. The variable acoustical centre can compensate for architectural requirements in airports and can be easily adapted. Its flexible mounting height of between 1.2m and 4m above ground level ensures the array can be securely positioned.
Public address and voice alarm technology benefits
ATEÏS DSP controllers, audio matrixes, loudspeakers and active line-arrays have been installed in some of the busiest airports around the world. These include Liege Airport in Belgium, Nice Cote Ouest Airport in France and Frankfurt Airport in Germany.
PA / VA in airports is a very specific requirement. Because airport buildings tend to be large and often have a lot of glass and metal in them the acoustics are not perfect, so audio systems have to deliver the best possible intelligibility. There is also a need for multiple zones and large digital storage capacity to accommodate a broad range of messages. ATEÏS PA / VA systems provide all this and more.
