GMR Group’s Delhi International Airport (DIAL) is set to begin capacity expansion project at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in India as part of the IGIA Master plan 2016.
The scope of the project includes the expansion of all areas of the airport covering the airside, terminal and landside.

The airport operator, DIAL, finalised the plan with the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation, in consultation with all the stakeholders, in May 2016.
As part of the plan, the airport's departure and arrival terminals will be combined into an expanded facility capable of accommodating 40 million passengers each year.
DIAL CEO Prabhakara Rao said: “Keeping in view the organisation’s vision, we have planned to increase the capacity of T1 and T3 and build a fourth runway in due course of time.
“As per the Master Plan, capacity of T 1 will be increased from 20 million to 40 million and the capacity of T3 will be increased from 34 million to 45 million. The expansion would enable us to handle the steep rise of the passenger inflow at the airport.”

By GlobalDataThe airport apron will be refurbished to meet future aircraft demands and feature new and advanced facilities, such as Bridge Mounted Equipment (BME) and Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS).
In addition, the proposed 169,000m2 terminal one will be equipped with 22 aerobridges, 13 entry gates and nine baggage carousels.
DIAL will also build a fourth runway at IGIA, parallel to its existing Runway 11/29.
Scheduled to be constructed by 2021, the new runway will help reduce pressure on the other existing runways.
The company has already completed the commissioning of terminal three (T3).
