Rockwell Collins has signed a strategic agreement for the global distribution of Inmarsat’s latest SwiftBroadband-Safety (SB-S) flightdeck connectivity solution, which is designed to enhance safety and operational efficiency for aircraft.

SB-S is a secure flight deck communications system that meets strict aviation requirements for safety and operational data exchange with ground personnel.

It comprises an aircraft communications addressing and reporting system (ACARS), as well as safety and operational services over a secured internet protocol address (IP) data link and multiple voice channels.

The SB-S hardware is said to offer a lower cost of ownership, help save space and weight, and reduce fuel consumption for single-aisle, wide-bodied aircraft.

"Rockwell Collins’ investment in meeting these stringent requirements and understanding the unique needs of the aviation industry is critical to enabling airlines to reap the benefits of SB-S."

Using the system, airlines will achieve enhanced situational awareness across their entire operation, more informed real-time decision making, improved real-time performance monitoring, and high-resolution weather updates.

This helps upgrade the safety and efficiency of airline and air traffic control (ATC) flight operations.
