The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) in the US has concludes its annual emergency exercise in which it simulated a terrorist attack at Terminal 1.
During the exercise, the airport tested emergency procedures for communication, incident command, and coordination among multiple agencies.

Under federal regulations, airports in the US need to conduct such a drill every three years.
However, SFO carries out the full-scale emergency drill every year to ensure the highest level of readiness.
Airport director Ivar Satero said: “Our highest priorities are safety and security, and our annual emergency exercise ensures that we continually improve our emergency response capabilities.
“With the participation of so many organisations and agencies, this exercise exemplifies the teamwork within our SFO airport community.”

By GlobalDataSFO’s annual emergency exercise demonstrated the effective coordination among several agencies, such as airport staff, the San Francisco Fire Department Airport Division, the San Francisco Police Department Airport Bureau, mutual aid units from around the Bay Area and other state and federal agencies.
In addition, the activity highlighted the capabilities of the SFO Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) that functions as the primary point of the airport’s efforts to restore normal operations after any event.
More than 60 volunteers participated in the drill as role-play passengers.
SFO provides non-stop flight services to more than 49 international destinations on 41 international airlines and uses 13 domestic carriers to directly connect to 83 cities within the US.
