Information services company DTN has been selected by Ireland’s weather information provider Met Éireann to deliver its MetConsole aviation weather suite, in support of its aviation modernisation and automation project (AMAP).

Under the terms of the deal, DTN’s MetConsole will be deployed at five Irish airports, including Dublin Airport.

The DTN MetConsole platform will facilitate automated weather observing systems (AWOS) at the airports and support the AMAP programme, a nationwide project designed to upgrade the entire aviation meteorological observation infrastructure.

The AMAP system will facilitate the future development of fully automated observations at some airports.

"The AMAP system is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the weather observation service."

Met Éireann Aviation Services head Tony Tighe said: “Met Éireann will benefit from this upgrade through the development of a network of fully integrated and automatic weather observation systems at all of the state’s main airports.

“The AMAP system is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the weather observation service while simultaneously enhancing services to the aviation community and minimising the cost of implementation and operation.”

The MetConsole can be fully customised and configured to address the needs specified by Met Éireann.

DTN Weather senior vice-president Jon Reifschneider said: “The ability to customise and configure the solution will enable the organisation to maximise resources and provide accurate and consistent weather information to all airports.”

The specifications includes the integration of both existing on-airport sensors and newly acquired sensors, meeting specific and local system requirements.

The systems can also operate uninterrupted while providing relevant automated weather information to stakeholders.
