The Government of Canada is set to provide over $3.75m (C$5.1m) for 15 local and regional airports in Manitoba to help deliver better services for their passengers.
Via Transport Canada’s Airports Capital Assistance Programme, these airports will secure funding for projects and equipment that support safe airport operations for passengers, crews, and airport workers.

The airports receiving funds include Berens River, Bloodvein River, Flin Flon, Gods Lake Narrows, Norway House, Oxford House, Pukatawagan, Red Sucker Lake and South Indian Lake.
St. Andrews, St. Theresa Point, Tadoule Lake, the Pas/Grace Lake, Thompson, and York Landing have also been allocated capital to ensure safer operations.
The equipment purchased through the funding will help maintain aircraft movement surfaces besides removing and controlling ice and snow from airside surfaces such as runways, taxiways, and the apron.
The funds will also enable the purchase of a compactor used in airports with a gravel runway. It will help compress the gravel on the runway and provide a stable surface for safe landing and takeoff operations.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the capital will support wildlife fencing to allow large mammals to stay away from secure airfield areas.
The latest infusion is in addition to over $15.3m (C$20.8m) provided under the programme last year to implement safety-related projects at the Flin Flon, Gods Lake Narrows, Lac Brochet, Red Sucker Lake, Shamattawa, and Thompson airports.
Canada Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said: “Airports play a crucial role in keeping Canadians connected across our vast country, and the last two years have only underscored this. Today’s investment of over $5.1m for 15 airports across Manitoba is great news for the region’s air sector and for the communities these airports serve.
“Investments like these will ensure that our air sector comes out strong as we enter post-pandemic recovery and help us keep our commitment to building safer, stronger communities.”
