Dubai International Airport (DXB) recorded 14.2 million passengers in Q2 2022, which is a year-on-year (YOY) increase of 190.6%.

Passenger volume at DXB stood at 27.9 million in H1 2022, a 161.9% surge compared with the same period last year.

This is 67.5% of the airport’s pre-pandemic passenger footfall in H1 2019.

The airport said that it achieved this figure despite a 45-day shutdown of its northern runway from May to June for overhaul work.

In the first six months of this year, India remained DXB’s top destination country, followed by Saudi Arabia and the UK.

In H1 2022, DXB witnessed 154,993 flight movements or 87% of the pre-pandemic flight movements recorded in the first half of 2019.

This figure was an increase of 55.9% from the first half of 2021.

The airport managed 390,520t of cargo in Q2 2022, taking the freight volume to 910,075t for H1 2022, an 18.9% decline.

Quarterly cargo volumes were hit as a result of the shifting of major freight operators back to Dubai World Central (DWC) in March.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said: “DXB’s recovery from the impact of the global pandemic has been spectacular, and that position has been strengthened during 2022, particularly during the second quarter.

“Not only has Dubai Airports been successful in managing the recovery, but customer service quality has been maintained throughout.

“We worked with our service partners across the airport community to be ready and prepared to deliver the consistently smooth and easy experience that our passengers have come to expect at DXB.”

The airport projects a stronger H2 2022 and an annual passenger volume of 62.4 million for this year. This is up from its May forecast of 58.3 million.
