CAAC said that the new norm under the deployment of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council targets Covid-19 prevention, as well as social and economic development, to contain the pandemic more scientifically.

With this move, the Chinese aviation regulator intends to facilitate cross-border personnel movements and international exchanges and cooperation.

In a statement, CAAC said: “For an airline carrying five passengers or above who test positive for Covid-19 on a single inbound flight.

“If the number of the confirmed passengers reaches 4% or above of the total number of passengers flying on the said single inbound flight, the airline’s operation on that specific route shall be suspended for one operation.

“If the number of the confirmed passengers reaches 8% or above of the total number of passengers flying on the said single inbound flight, the airline’s operation on that specific route shall be suspended for two operations.

The aviation regulator added that the quota of the flight(s) involved in a ‘circuit breaker’ will not be allowed to be transferred to other routes.

It said that the policies are subject to necessary adjustments in due time in accordance with the pandemic situation and related prevention and control requirements.
