Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) has restarted operations at its Terminal 2 amid an uptick in passenger volume due to the easing of Covid-19-related restrictions.
Currently, five airlines are running from the terminal, with more than 50 flights a week.

This takes the total number of carriers operating across all the airport’s terminals to 26.
Plans are underway to further boost the terminal’s capacity by adding 21 weekly flights this month.
The airport operator stated: “Retail and duty-free services are also being reintroduced, offering passengers a full range of choice before their flight.”
In the first three months of the year, AUH’s passenger traffic increased to 2.56 million, compared with 807,310 in Q1 2021, leading to the introduction of new routes and frequencies.

The AUH operator, Abu Dhabi Airports, said that the growth was driven by the elimination of mandatory PCR testing for travellers visiting Abu Dhabi.
The operator also attributed the growth to the reopening of borders in Australia and Singapore, along with the lifting of travel bans to and from India.
The airport currently provides flights to 99 destinations on 26 airlines, versus 81 destinations on 18 airlines in Q1 2021.
Meanwhile, last July, the AUH operator cancelled a contract worth approximately $3bn for the construction of the new Midfield Terminal Building.
Originally planned to open in 2017, the new terminal aims to support the growth of the UAE’s flag carrier Etihad Airways.
Last June, a 3MW solar-powered car park was built at AUH with the aim of helping the airport save around 5,300t of CO₂ a year.
