Oil and gas producer OMV has collaborated with Associated Energy Group (AEG Fuels) for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Austria.

The partnership, which aims to market an on-demand quantity of SAF for the general aviation segment, will enable end-users to replace conventional jet fuel with SAF at Vienna International Airport.

The OMV Schwechat refinery produces SAF by co-processing regional used cooking oil supplied by Austria-based collector Münzer Bioindustrie.

SAF reduces CO₂ emissions by more than 80% over its entire lifecycle when compared to conventional kerosene.

AEG Fuels pledged to purchase the product and supply it to aircraft end-users through its multiple sales and marketing channels, including term supply contracts.

The channels also include ad-hoc demands through AEG’s round-the-clock dispatch, mobile application and instantaneous refuelling authorisations through its web-based fuel management platform.

SAF can also be collected by refuelling end-users from OMV’s direct pipeline to Vienna International Airport.

AEG Fuels Europe supply director Daria Napolskikh said: “Our closely coordinated collaboration delivers an immediate and straightforward solution for operators to cut their carbon emissions.

“By improving SAF availability, we are simplifying our customers’ pathways to achieving their sustainability goals. We are excited to provide the aviation industry with decarbonisation tools through our partnership with OMV in 2022 and beyond.”

Last month, Austrian Airlines started receiving deliveries of SAF from OMV as part of a supply contract that was signed at the end of last year.

SAF was delivered at the Vienna International Airport for fuelling Austrian Airlines’ aircraft.
