Collins Aerospace has been selected by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to deliver passenger processing and baggage systems at three airports.

These airports are Pokhara International Airport (PKR), Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) and Gautam Buddha International Airport (BWA).

The new systems will enable the airports to reduce overcrowding, allowing airlines to manage passenger processing, as well as sort, route and handle luggage with higher precision.

Through these solutions, passengers will also be able to self-check-in, tag and dispatch their own baggage.

Under this project, Collins Aerospace will provide ARINC Multi-User System Environment (MUSE), ARINC SelfServ Common Use Self Service (CUSS) Kiosks, ARINC Self Service Bag Drop, ARINC BagLink and Baggage Reconciliation System.

CAAN CNS Department project chief and head Mukul Mishra said: “Contracted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal to supply passenger processing and baggage systems at Tribhuvan International Airport, Gautam Buddha International Airport and Pokhara International Airport, Collins Aerospace has successfully delivered on the first milestone of cut-over of CUPPS at KTM on 1 April 2021.

Collins Aerospace airport systems general manager Rakan Khaled said: “Collins’ airport solutions are customisable and scalable to fit both small and large airports and we utilise onsite resources to optimally distribute passenger traffic to ensure that we don’t have an area that is congested.

“This helps enable social distancing, reduce anxiety and improve the passenger experience by reducing bottlenecks around the airport throughout the entire process.”

Situated in Kathmandu, KTM is said to be the nation’s busiest airport in terms of traveller movement.

It also provides sole access to international destinations from Nepal while connecting all domestic airports.

Meanwhile, PKR is the aerial gateway to Nepal’s Himalayan and Annapurna zones while BWA is among the oldest airports in Nepal after KTM.

Last year in July, Clark International Airport (CRK) utilised Collins Aerospace for ARINC passenger processing and airport operation solutions.
