Renewable fuels company Aemetis has entered agreements with eight airline members of the oneworld Alliance for the delivery of 350 million gallons of blended fuel comprising sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Under the memoranda of understanding (MoUs) signed in this regard, the SAF will be supplied to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) for seven years starting from 2024.

oneworld members are Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, American Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines and Qatar Airways.
These airlines will use green fuel for their operations at San Francisco Airport.
More oneworld members are expected to join the project soon.
The blended SAF includes 60% petroleum jet fuel and 40% sustainable aviation fuel to comply with international blended sustainable aviation fuel standards.

The clean aviation fuel will be manufactured at the Aemetis Carbon Zero facility, which is currently under development in Riverbank, California.
Waste wood will be utilised for the production of cellulosic hydrogen at the plant.
Thereafter, cellulosic hydrogen will be merged with wastes, non-edible sustainable oils and zero-carbon intensity hydroelectric electricity to produce SAF.
Aemetis founder, chairman and CEO Eric McAfee said: “The Aemetis Carbon Zero plant under development in the Central Valley of California is designed to utilise zero-carbon intensity electricity, negative carbon intensity hydrogen from waste wood and renewable oils along with CO₂ sequestration to produce low carbon intensity sustainable aviation fuel.
“The plant is designed to reduce air pollution in local disadvantaged communities by reducing orchard wood burning in fields while creating more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs in a lower income agricultural area.”
In October, UK’s Manchester Airports Group reached an agreement with Fulcrum BioEnergy Limited UK to enable direct SAF supply for Manchester Airport (MAN).
