Frankfurt Airport (FRA) in Germany has selected Swiss information technology firm SITA to install 87 biometric check-in kiosks.

The deployment of SITA TS6 Kiosks, which is projected to be finished by 2021, is aimed at improving the airport’s operational efficiency.

These kiosks will enable passengers to check-in fast and get bag tags for self-bag drop services.

Combined with SITA Flex, they aim to provide a ‘unified’ user experience to passengers across numerous airlines.

SITA’s kiosks will minimise physical touchpoints and allow passengers to choose their self-service options from check-in to self-bag drop.

Notably, the SITA TS6 kiosk was given the 2021 IF Design award for its ‘slick, sustainable and adaptive’ design.

These solutions can be tailored according to the needs of the airport’s brand design and customer.

Due to the kiosks’ modular design, upgrades can be carried out without replacing the entire system.

According to the company, this project is said to be its ‘largest implementation’ in Europe.

SITA Europe president Sergio Colella said: “We’re proud to continue supporting leading airports such as Frankfurt in their recovery from the impact of the pandemic. Technology holds the keys to unlocking smarter and safer travel for all, recouping revenues lost during the past 18 months and ensuring flexible operations that can adapt to the unforeseen circumstances of tomorrow. A more robust and sustainable air transport industry will benefit passengers, economies and jobs.”

Last month, SITA won the Oceanic Data Link (ODL) contract from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to provide its Future Air Navigation System (FANS-1/A)-based datalink solutions.
