Global technology and consulting firm Indra has secured a contract from the Korean Airport Corporation (KAC) to deliver and install its Normarc Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME).

Used by aeroplanes for safe navigation to the ground, these solutions will be deployed at South Korea’s Muan International Airport (MWX), Ulsan Airport (USN) and Yeosu Airport (RSU).

Indra stated that the first delivery will take place in October 2021.

Furthermore, KAC will rely on separate systems for testing and training technical workers.

KAC already relies on Indra for its InNOVA tower systems. The latest contract is the first for navigational aids.

Commenting on the development, KAC manager Yongcheol Lee said: “Indra has been a professional partner in this and previous projects and has demonstrated their competence within navigation. We look forward to starting using the Normarc navigation systems.”

Indra international sales manager Tomas Lübeck added: “KAC’s quality requirements are high, even for the air traffic industry. Yet, our systems have passed all flight checks. We are proud to be the preferred supplier and look forward to working with KAC on this project.”

Indra has installed several air traffic management and surveillance systems at airports and air bases across the nation.

Last week, the UAE-based Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport selected Indra for its digital voice IP communication system, Garex 300.

For secure communication, these airports have been using Indra’s Garex 220 VCCS system for around 15 years.
